Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly Reteam For Comedy ‘Holmes and Watson’
Art and Experience: After introducing audiences to the “shake and bake” in “Talladega Nights” and becoming best friends in “Step Brothers,” Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly are reuniting once more to portray comedy versions of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson in Sony’s “Holmes and Watson.”
Per Deadline, the duo has been wanting to find another opportunity to work together, and now they will in the upcoming Etan Cohen-directed comedy. Ferrell will portray Holmes and Reilly will play his right-hand man Watson. The story is inspired by Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes tale about the popular private detective.
The project will be produced by Mosaic and Gary Sanchez. Jonathan Kadin will oversee for Columbia, with Chris Henchy and Jessica Elbaum overseeing for Gary Sanchez. Production is set to begin after Thanksgiving.
The film originally starred Ferrell and Sacha Baron Cohen, but, due to scheduling, roles were shifted and Reilly stepped in – which is great because the comedians are pretty much on-screen soulmates. Let’s just hope they don’t get as sweaty solving crimes as they do watching “Cops.”
The “SNL” alum previously worked with Cohen on last year’s comedy “Get Hard,” which marked the helmer’s feature directorial debut. Ferrell has a slew of projects he is currently working on including “Daddy’s Home 2,” James Franco’s “Zeroville” and Andrew Jay Cohen’s “The House.” Reilly will next be seen in “Kong: Skull Island,” and is set to reprise his role as Ralph in the “Wreck-It Ralph” sequel.
