Art and Experience: Cinema Organization of Iran Director Hojjatollah Ayyubi has congratulated director and producer Reza Mirkarimi for the triumph of his latest film, “The Daughter”, at the 38th Moscow International Film Festival.

“The Daughter” scooped awards at the festival for best film and best actor, won by Farhad Aslani. Mirkarimi received a Golden George for best film at the closing ceremony last week.

“The great achievement of ‘The Daughter’ in the Moscow Festival has been good news for all Iranian film aficionados. Iranian cinema is a cinema that has been making progress with great power and honor. A cinema rooted in the earth, it is the speaker of an ancient civilization and culture,” reads part of the message.

“The success of the film is a valuable achievement for Iranian cinema, a film that is a proper representative of Iranian cinema. I hereby congratulate all the cast and crew, especially (actor) Farhad Aslani. All the aficionados appreciate the glorious moments and scenes you create,” it concludes.

The film is set in the southwestern Iranian city of Abadan, where Mr. Azizi, an engineer for the Abadan Oil Refining Company, is making arrangements for an engagement party for one of his daughters while his other daughter, Setareh, plans to leave Abadan to attend her friend’s goodbye party in Tehran.
