Art and Experience: Iranian director Azadeh Bizargiti’s “The Scent of Lemon at Dawn” won the best documentary award at the 3rd Women Media Arts and Film Festival in Sydney, Australia, the organizers announced on Sunday.
The documentary is about five women who became chemically injured after Iraqi aircraft dropped mustard gas bombs on the Iranian city of Sardasht in 1987 during the Iran-Iraq war.
The best media arts award went to French director Anabela Costa’s “In Motion” while Brazilian filmmaker Luciana Canton’s “Public Intimacy” received the best film at event.
The award for best short fiction film was presented to “Daughter” by Australian director Sarah Jayne Portelli and Swiss filmmaker Francesca Scalisi’s “Moriom” was crowned best short documentary.
“My Grandfather Was a Cherry Tree” by Russian directors Olga Poliektova and Tatiana Poliektova received the best animation award while “The Perfect World” by Uzbek filmmaker Hristina Belousova won the best short film award in the experimental category.
