Art and Experience: After six movies between the linked “Lord of the Rings” and “Hobbit” franchises, Peter Jackson appears to be finally be done with Middle Earth. Collaborator Steven Spielberg has revealed that Jackson’s next project will be for Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment, after which they’ll collaborate on that “Tintin” sequel that’s been rumored for years now: “Peter was so busy with ‘The Hobbit’ that it took him away from ‘Tintin’ and he’s doing another film for my company now,” Spielberg tells TimeOut (via the New Zealand Herald). “It’s a secret, nobody knows about it. Then after that he’ll do ‘Tintin.’”

Said sequel is to be titled “Prisoners of the Sun” and doesn’t yet have a release date. “We already have a screenplay, Peter’s the director and I’m the producer,” Spielberg adds. “We made a deal to do three ‘Tintin’ movies together. I would direct the first one, Peter would do the second one and then we’d have a director we can’t announce yet lined up for the third one.”

No details are known of the still-secret project that will precede the next “Tintin” installment, though a spokesman for Jackson has said that the Oscar-winning filmmaker will be happy to discuss it “at the right time” — perhaps at some sort of council in which former rivals come together to confront a greater evil.
