‘Midday Event 2’ among Fajr’s hottest
Art and Experience: ‘Midday Event: Blood Trap’ directed by Mohammad-Hossein Mahdavian has been one of the 37th annual Fajr Film Festival’s most sought after films.
In the first day of public screening, the highly acclaimed political drama has been one of the festival’s most popular films, with some time-slots completely selling out and other time-slots over 90% full.
According to media reports, Mahdavian’s film was sold out for the 20:00 time-slot with long lines having formed since 17:00, and many tickets being sold in the black market.
One cinema owner indicated that for the later time-slot of 00:35, over 90% of the tickets were sold; blowing away their expectations for a time-slot that was held after midnight.
‘Midday Event: Blood Trap’, sequel to the original ‘Midday Event’ movie, is a political drama based on true events from the early days of the government of the Islamic Republic.
At a time of heightened political tensions, a rogue terrorist group known as the MKO begins to assassinate government officials and innocent civilians. Meanwhile, a group of brave, selfless members of the revolutionary guards begin to hunt them down in a set of sophisticated intelligence operations.
The original ‘Midday Event’ had won numerous awards, including the Crystal Simorgh for Best Film at the 35th annual Fajr Film Festival in 2017.
Founded in 1982, the Fajr Film Festival is an annual event held on the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, celebrating Iranian cinema.
Over the years, the event has played a key role in the development of the Iranian film industry.
This year’s festival, commemorating the 40th anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran, is currently underway with the closing ceremony scheduled for February 11, 2019.
