Art and Experience: Russian director of “I am a teacher”, Sergey Mokritskiy, hoped that all the world know about iranian deep and thought provoking cinema.
According to the Public Relations Office of the 34th FIFF, Sergey Mokritskiy, director of “I am a teacher” in an interview talked about his first experience as the international guest of FIFF.
This is your first time that you travel here in Iran and FIFF, how did you find the festival?
Yes, this is my first time. Everything was excellent. I am speechless and I can’t describe my feelings. Everything was well-organize and ordered. I also met great people. Hospitality was marvelous. But the best and most amazing thing I figured out here was that Russian cinema has big fans here and Russian films are warmly welcomed here, including my film. I am very happy that audiences liked my film. It was surprising but I am very happy about it.
How much do you know Iranian cinema?
A little bit. I really love Abbas Kiarostami’s films and cinema. Unfortunately there are a few events about iranian cinema and films so I don’t know much about this cinema.
What is absorbing for you in Iranian cinema?
First, I learn about Iranians lives and worlds through your cinema. The second is that, there is a hidden excitement in Iranian films that I really love it. There is always a secret that remain till the end of the film. It is like you are sitting next to a bomb and you do not know when it will be exploded.
Russian cinema is familiar in Iran, how can Iranian cinema find its way in Russia regarding the countries geographical closeness?
I believe that it is possible that some treaties and agreements signed between governments of the two countries to hold film week of each country. Now, it is limited to producers and distributors, but when you officially sign a treaty, there would be more facility and publicity. More audiences would be informed and the program would run successfully. So the result would be effective and positive. Each cultivated and literate Russian knows Iran very well.
How were you invited to the festival?
I was in Beijing Film Festival that I was informed that my film is going to be screened here and I flied here. It was a gift from god that I am here.
How can you compare this festival with other international festivals?
Everything was great and I can’t anything bad in it. I wish luck and success for your festival and I hope that the entire world know about Iranian deep and thought provoking cinema. Sadly I was here for a very short time and I wish that I am invited for next edition of this festival.
The 34th edition of Fajr International Film Festival was held from April 20th to April 25th, 2016 in Charsou Cineplex, under the supervision of the well-known Iranian filmmaker, Mr. Reza Mirkarimi, who is also the Managing Director of Khaneh Cinema.
