Art and Experience:Steven Soderbergh may have retired from feature filmmaking, but he’s kept busy in pretty much every other arena. He’s directed two seasons of Cinemax’s medical drama “The Knick,” executive produced Starz’s “The Girlfriend Experience,” based on his 2009 film of the same name, and he recently announced he would direct an HBO film called “Mosaic.” Now, he’s executive producing Scott Frank’s Netflix Western limited series “Godless” about an 1800s mining town in New Mexico. Vulture reports that actor Jeff Daniels is in talks to appear in the series along with Scott McNairy. Jack O’Connell is already attached to the series.

Daniels had his film debut in Miloš Forman’s “Ragtime.” He went on to appear in Woody Allen’s “The Purple Rose of Cairo,” Jonathan Demme’s “Something Wild,” Jan de Bont’s “Speed,” Noah Baumbach’s “The Squid and the Whale,” Rian Johnson’s “Looper,” and many more. He recently starred in Aaron Sorkin’s “The Newsroom” as Will McAvoy on HBO. Scott Frank previously wrote the screenplays for Barry Sonnenfeld’s “Get Shorty,” Steven Soderbergh’s “Out of Sight,” and Steven Spielberg’s “Minority Report.” He recently wrote and directed “A Walk Among the Tombstones,” starring Liam Neeson as a private investigator hired by a drug kingpin to find out who kidnapped and murdered his wife.
