Art and Experience: Iranian films “Muhammad, the Messenger of God” and “Daughter” have received nominations in five categories, including best film, in the feature competition of the 10th Asia Pacific Screen Awards, the organizers announced on Monday.

“Muhammad”, Majid Majidi’s epic about the childhood of the Prophet of Islam (S), and “Daughter”, Reza Mirkarimi’s drama about the shifting balance of power within families, will be vying for the award with “Cold of Kalandar” by Mustafa Kara and “Ember” by Zeki Demirkubuz, both from Turkey, and “The Student” by Kirill Serebrennikov from Russia.

“Muhammad” also received a nomination for Achievement in Cinematography for 3-time Oscar-winning Italian DOP Vittorio Storaro.

“Daughter” writer Mehran Kashani was nominated for best screenwriter while the film’s star Farhad Aslani nominated for best actor award.

According to a press released published earlier last week by the APSA, “Breath” by Iranian director Narges Abyar received a nomination for Best Youth Feature Film award while her fellow filmmaker Mehrdad Oskui’s “Starless Dreams” will be competing for the award for Best Documentary Feature Film.

Winners are scheduled to be announced in Brisbane, Australia on November 24.
