Art and Experience: Iranian director Hadi Masumdust’s “A Family without an Elder” has won the award for best documentary at the 18th Iran Cinema Celebration.

The winners of the documentary section of the celebration were announced during a ceremony at Tehran’s Niavaran Cultural Historical Complex on Monday.

In “A Family without an Elder”, members of a family come together after a lengthy hiatus due to their mother’s sickness.

The award for best director went to Yaser Khayyer for “Slowness”.

In the medium-length documentary section, the award for best film went to “Tanhavash” by Fathollah Amiri while Saam Kalantari received the award for best director for “Mannequins of Qale Hasankhan”.

“Owsia” by Alireza Dehqan won the best film award in the short documentary section and Hayedeh Moradi received the award for best director for “Snowy Roofs”.

In this section, the special jury award went to “The Rock” by Hamid Jafari.

The Iranian House of Cinema organizes the celebration annually to commemorate Iran’s National Day of Cinema, which falls on September 11 this year.

Winners in the categories of short films, animations and documentaries are announced annually before the National Day of Cinema.
