Intl. Resistance filmfest. announces winners
Art and Experience: The 14th International Resistance Film Festival announced its winners on Fri., with ‘Standing in the Dust’ collecting the most awards in Iranian Cinema section.
The Resistance International Film Festival (RIFF), as the oldest Islamic Revolution Film Festival, aims to explain the “Islamic Revolution Discourse”, as well as the theoretical and conceptual framework of the world’s most prestigious religious and ideological revolution through films.
The festival held its 14th edition this year, from 23-30 September, with over 320 films from 37 countries screened and guests from 23 countries in attendance.
The Resistance International Film Festival was held in the following sections: Iranian Cinema Contest with the subsets of feature films, video movies, short films, documentaries, animated films, television series, music video and Advertising Materials, and the International sections with the three sections of International Cinema Contest (including feature films, short films, documentaries and animated films), Imad Muqniah, as well as the perspective of Resistance Cinema in the world.
In the International Cinema Contest, ‘3000 Nights’ from Lebanon won the Best Script Award. ‘Jungles Are Still Green’ from Austria won the Best Director Award, while ‘Standing in the Dust’ by Iranian director Mohammad Hossein Mahdavian won Best Film Award with 100% of votes.
Special Jury Award went to ‘Surion’ from Syria, and ‘Mazar Sharif’ from Iran.
In the Iranian Cinema Contest, Merila Zarei won Best Actress Award for ‘Little Black Fish’, while Parviz Parastoui won Best Actor Award for ‘Bodyguard’. The Best Script Award went to Mohammad Hossein Mahdavian for ‘Standing in the Dust’, and the Best Director Award was granted to Ebrahim Hatamikia for ‘Bodygaurd’. ‘Standing in the Dust’ also won the Best Film Award.
The RIFF also named Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi from Yemen as the ‘2016 Face of Resistance’. His representative received the award on his behalf, saying “it is a great honor to be receiving an award from such an auspicious festival. We are living during a time when media outlets, acting as a mouthpiece to US and Israel, manipulate facts and show the main villain as the victim.”
