Art and Experience: In its latest episode, Viceland’s “Vice Guide to Film” goes inside the singular minds of the Coen Brothers. Combines elements of biography, analysis of films ranging from “A Serious Man” to “Raising Arizona” and talking-head interviews with the likes of George Clooney, Jeff Bridges, John Turturro, composer Carter Burwell and critic Scott Tobias, it’s another strong entry in the new series. “I love my brother Beau,” says Bridges, “but to direct a movie with him? Oh god, it’d be tough, man.”

“You know they’re not really brothers,” Clooney jokes in the opening moments. “They’re not even related. In fact, only one of them is on the set at a time.” A narrator aptly describes the Coens’ work as “existential fables…born of two symbiotic minds,” which rhymes with the remark by Turturro that “everybody says the same thing, you know, it’s like a two-headed monster.”

“Vice Guide to Film” has also featured episodes on Werner Herzog, Todd Haynes, Quentin Tarantino, David Fincher and Gus Van Sant; in-depth looks at Kelly Reichardt and John Carpenter are forthcoming. This episode is available online for a limited time, so watch it now or subscribe to Viceland.
