Elaheh Nobakht on panel of Geneva Oriental film festival
Art and Experience: Iranian distributor Elaheh Nobakht has been selected for a jury of the 13th International Oriental Film Festival of Geneva in Switzerland, the organizers have announced.
She is on the panel for the short films in company with French-Swiss actress Marie-Eve Musy and Moroccan cultural activist Malak Dahmouni.
Nobakht is the managing director of Cinando, an online network for film professionals, offering them tools to navigate the film industry.
“The aim of this 2018 edition is to highlight and inspire hope,” the organizers have said in a statement published on the festival’s website.
“We want to celebrate the visions of women, amplify the voices of the youth, and explore the complexities of oriental societies,” the statement added.
“We take the opportunity to showcase the creativity of women, as they give expression to the hope of people who will not be silent in their struggle for a better life,” it concluded.
A number of Iranian films will also be screened along with over 100 movies selected to compete in the event, which will take place in Geneva, Lausanne and neighboring areas of France from April 21 to 29.
“Gaze” by Farnush Samadi will be competing in the short films category, while “Israfil” by Ida Panahandeh and “No. 17 Soheila” by Mahmud Ghaffari will be screened in the feature films competition.
Mehrdad Oskui’s acclaimed documentary “Starless Dreams” will also be screened at the festival, and “Ferrari” bu Alireza Davudnejad will contend for the Critics Award.
The School Competitions of the festival will screen “Salto” a documentary by Maryam Haddadi.
