Art and Experience: Oscar-nominated Iranian director Majid Majidi has said that China has the potential to challenge Hollywood hegemony.

He made the remarks during a meeting organized by the Beijing Children’s Film Studio in the Chinese capital on Sunday, the Persian service of IRNA reported.

“Having over 60,000 cinema theaters, China can revolutionize the film industry, otherwise Hollywood can take it all,” he mentioned.

“I am familiar with the Chinese cinema through Zhang Yimou’s films, and due to China’s rich culture and great facilities, I believe that the country’s cinema can quietly flourish,” he noted.

Majidi’s acclaimed movies “Children of Heaven” and “The Song of Sparrows” went on screen at the end of the meeting, which was attended by a number of Chinese cineastes and art students.
