Art and Experience: Iranian filmmaker Rokhsareh Qaem-Maqami’s “Sonita” will go on screen at the 23rd Sheffield International Documentary Festival — Sheffield Doc/Fest, which will be held from June 10 to 15.

A joint production of Iran, Germany and Switzerland, the documentary is about Sonita, an Afghan refugee living in Iran who fights to keep her dream of becoming a rap star alive, while her family attempts to sell her as a bride.

Earlier on January 30, Qaem-Maqami received the World Cinema Grand Jury Prize for Documentary for the film at the Sundance Film Festival held in Park City, Utah.
