Art & Experience: Broad Green Pictures is developing a movie about iconic playwright Tennessee Williams, based on John Lahr’s book “Tennessee Williams: Mad Pilgrimage of the Flesh.”

Williams authored “A Streetcar Named Desire,” “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof,” “The Glass Menagerie,” “Sweet Bird of Youth” and “The Night of the Iguana.”

John Lahr is the author of numerous books including Notes on a Cowardly Lion, a biography about his father, Bert Lahr. Lahr served as Senior Drama Critic for The New Yorker from 1992 until his retirement two years ago. His biography of Williams won numerous awards including the National Book Critics Circle Award, The American Academy of Arts and Letters Award, the Lambda Award for best gay biography, and the Sheridan Morley Prize for Theater Biography in the UK.

Williams became an alcoholic later in life, tormented by the inability to replicate his earlier successes. He died at the age of 71.
