Art and Experience:  Iranian director Hossein Namazi’s drama “Appendix” is competing in the Love is Folly International Film Festival underway in the Bulgarian capital of Varna.

The film is about Zari, who goes to the hospital with her husband due to severe abdominal pain. Using her friend’s health card because hers has expired, Zari undergoes an appendectomy but the staff at the hospital become suspicious of her identity, miring the couple in a struggle with the health care system.

Starring Anahita Nemati and Amirali Danaei, the movie will be screened at the festival on Wednesday.

“Let the Sun Shine in” by Claire Denis and “A Woman’s Life” by Stéphane Brizéfrom, both from France, and “The Smell of Money” by Ahmet Boyacioglu from Turkey are also competing in the official section of the festival, which will come to an end on September 2.
