Algerian festival to commemorate Abbas Kiarostami
Art and Experience: The 2nd Mediterranean Film Festival of Annaba will commemorate the world-renowned Iranian filmmaker Abbas Kiarostami, the commissioner of the festival Said Ould Khelifa has said.
He made the remarks on Wednesday in a meeting with Iran’s cultural attaché in Algeria, Mohammad Musavipur.
The commissioner called Kiarostami one of the outstanding figures of Iranian cinema and said that Kiarostami, with his special style of filmmaking, gave a specific image of Iranian cinema to the world.
He also added that the organizers are planning to invite the family of Kiarostami to the festival to pay their tribute to the filmmaker during the event running from October 6 to 12, 2016.
Kiarostami, who was suffering from a severe gastrointestinal disease, died in a Paris hospital on July 4.
Ould Khelifa also asked Iran to attend the festival as the guest country of honor with several films to go on screen with Arabic and French translations.
Chile was the guest country in the previous edition of the festival, during which Chilean filmmaker, screenwriter and novelist Miguel Ernesto Littin Cucumides was honored.
